Ulun Danu BeratanTemple

Ulun Danu Temple or Pura Ulun Danu located on a lake that fills the crater of ancient mount Bratan at Bedugul Village, Baturiti district, Tabanan Regency, in the northwestern part of Bali, in an elevation of 1239 meter above sea level. It is about 92 km from The Segara Condotel and can be reached by motorcycles as the roads are fairly good. The weather is usually cool and fresh, bringing the calmness of nature closer and closer to the mind of whomever witnessing it.

The name of Beratan Lake is inseparable with the Beratan Mount as Deity and Goddess as fertility source, prosperity to keep the prosperity in life and society life. In papyrus chronicle of the Mengwi, Ulun Danu Beratan Temple referred as the name of Parhyangan ri pinggiring danu Beratan (sanctum located in lakeside of Beratan Lake). Ulun come from Hulu word meaning head or power, what is in this case intended by Ulun Danu Beratan is power of Beratan Lake that is Danu Goddess (Dewi Danu).

This very importance Hindu Buddhist temple was founded in the 17th century, It is dedicated to Dewi Danu, the goddess of the waters and is actually built on small islands, which means it is completely surrounded by the lake. Both pilgrimages and ceremonies are held here to ensure that there is a supply of water for farmers all over Bali. The temple is truly beautiful, with classical Hindu thatch-roofed Meru (Multiroofed Shrines) reflected in the water and silhouetted against the often cloudy mountain backdrop-one of the commonest photographic images of Bali.
